2010 Himalaya Festival
The Himalaya Festival was a great success. So many people turned up for the meal that we ran out of food. It was all Nepalese and was put together under the supervision of two Nepali women from Nanaimo. There must have been 20 volunteers and probably we had 200 people eating in the community hall. We saw two movies on the Citta Hospital in Simikot, that is supported by funds from Gabriola. The festival was organized by Nick and Val - lower picture. Allison was one of the volunteers - that's our big soup pot.

Garlic Snape season again
Garlic snape is really garlic tasting and smelling. They are the flowering head of a garlic plant and we have about 40 really strongly growing garlic, so lots of snape. Garlic wont be harvested for at least a few months.

Happy Father's Day
Micheal's Father's Day card. Note the beard and the four eyes. We went to Robert's (the new restaurant owner) for dinner - it was very good. Most of the day spent building the chickens new summer home.

Michael's First Place Ribbon
Michael says he had a great time and was proud to win a ribbon. He also wants people to know that the lights on the boat did flash before it went in the water.

More pictures from the Race
Everyone enjoyed the race, even the two people in the very cold water of the Nanaimo River. The boats showed a wonderful diversity of imagination and ideas - eg the Tim Hortons Boat. This is the third year Michael has raced and the third year it has rained on race day. Nobody noticed. As always we went to lunch after and then did a whole bunch of shopping. Nothing is left on our "Nanaimo List" for now.
Michael at the 2010 Milk Carton Race in Nanaimo
Michael had a blast. He was very proud of his millennium falcon boat and showed it to everyone who pointed a camera at it. He mingled with the crowd (well sort of) and enjoyed the race. He lost his heat but was very pleased with the whole experience especially as this year his boat didn't sink and he could take it home.
